There is a large airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka, The Bandaranaike International Airport. Most flights are from other cities in Asia, so the best way to ​get to Sri Lanka is by a connecting flight from another Asian city, like Singapore or Dubai.

Getting Around

Currency used in Sri Lanka is the Sri Lankan Rupee. One Sri Lankan Rupee is equivalent to about 145 US dollars. Common notes are the 10, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 rupee note.

In Sri Lanka, the two most common languages spoken are Sinhala and Tamil. 

To great people, place your hands together in front of your chest and bow your head. To be formal and polite, you can say "Ayubowan," which means "May you be blessed." Handshakes are common in urban areas, but Muslim men do not touch women.

To be polite, you can say "Ayubowan" while greeting someone. Make sure to use Mr, Mrs, or Ms in front of all names. It is disrespectful to not use a title. 

The right hand should be used for passing things and shaking hands. The left hand in Sri Lanka is reserved for personal hygene. Remove your shoes when entering homes in Sri Lanka, and do not make any gestures with the index finger. Using the index finger is very rude in Sri Lanka, equivalent to the middle finger here.
