For religious reasons, Sri Lankan people usually do not have much meat in their diets. Their diets typically do include fish. 

Staple foods are rice, curries, native tropical fruits and vegetables, nuts and bread. Due to Sri Lanka's tropical climate, cococut and crab are in many dishes. 15 types of rice are grown. People drink tea several times a day. 

For breakfast people eat bowl-shaped pancakes made of fermented rice flour. They also eat fried eggs. 

For lunch and diner, people usually eat curries with rice, and rice noodles.

As snacks, people will eat kotthu, which is a mixture of flaky bread and vegetables.

For dessert, curd made from water buffalo milk is common.

People drink tea, coconut milk, and the tap water is safe.
